Tla’amin General Election Recount is decided by tiebreaker

Erik Blaney is 8th legislator elected following tiebreaker name draw

On Monday September 23, as per Tla’amin Law, Electoral Officer Jordan Loose from OneFeather undertook a zoom televised recount of ballots for the Tla’amin Legislature.

All candidates for the office of Legislator were invited to observe the count.

The result of the recount was a tie for the 8th and final spot between candidates Erik Blaney and Leonard Harry with 175 votes each.

Section 63 of the Tla’amin Election Law says that in the event of a tie after a recount, the electoral officer shall place both names in a receptacle and draw as many names as seats available.

Electoral officer Jordan Loose from OneFeather filled out one ballot each in the names Erik Blaney and Leonard Harry and placed them into a ballot box.

The electoral officer drew the name Erik Blaney for the 8th and final spot on the Tla’amin Legislature.
