Call for Interest: Members for the Culture and Heritage Committee

In accordance with the Tla’amin Culture and Heritage Law, the Tla’amin Nation is seeking interested Tla’amin Citizens and individuals to assist decision -making and policy development concerning Tla’amin culture, language, and heritage.

The Culture and Heritage Committee plays an important role in protecting our history and planning for the future of the Tla’amin Nation. Its mandate is to provide information to the Lands and Resources Department and Executive Council on matters relating to Tla’amin culture, language and heritage, fill knowledge gaps and/or recommendations regarding our laws and regulations. The Committee will also present reports to the elected leadership on culture and heritage activities of the Nation.

Being a member of the Committee is not expected to be a significant time commitment.  Meetings are typically held four (4) to six (6) times per year.  Committee members are provided honoraria for their time, along with reimbursement of reasonable expenses related to participation in the Committee.

The Committee will be comprised of:

  • at least three individuals who are Tla’amin Citizens, one of whom is an Elder;
  • individuals who are knowledgeable about Tla’amin culture, language and heritage; and
  • individuals who preferably speak ʔayʔaǰuθəm (Ayajuthem) Tla’amin language or have some familiarity with ʔayʔaǰuθəm (Ayajuthem) Tla’amin language.

The Tla’amin Culture and Heritage Committee shall:

  • Advise the Tla’amin staff and the Executive Council on matters relating to Tla’amin culture, language, and heritage;
  • Carry out other roles as reasonably requested by the Director or Executive Council, and;
  • Review all documents as requested and provide feedback.

  • A cover letter that explains why you think you would be a good candidate
  • Your resume
