Medical Travel Booking at Tla’amin Health
A Non-Insured Health Benefits Program is delivered by Tla’amin Health. The Health Benefits Program provides benefit coverage for medical and dental services that are not covered by provincial, federal or third-party insurance plans. The Health Benefits Program is delivered by Tla’amin Health in partnership with federal and provincial governments, and service providers.
Tla’amin Health provides support for out-of-town medical travel through its Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) Clerk. This support may include:
- funding for travel to access care outside the community
- hotel accommodations
- meal allowances
- assistance with forms such as TAP (Travel Assistance Program) forms for ferry travel. (forms are available directly at the Primary Care Clinic — Tla’amin Health staff can help you complete and submit them.)
Steps to Book Medical Travel
To book your medical travel through Tla’amin Health:
- Contact the NIHB Clerk Jaime Harry at Tla’amin Health — this person supports travel arrangements and benefit applications. They can help you determine eligibility and start the travel booking process.
- Provide appointment details — you’ll typically need:
- a confirmed appointment with a health provider outside the community
- a referral or documentation showing the date, time, and location of your appointment.
- Fill out required forms — Tla’amin Health staff will assist you with necessary paperwork, such as NIHB travel benefit forms and TAP ferry travel forms if applicable.
- Arrange logistics — once the NIHB benefits and travel are approved, the NIHB Clerk or support staff help coordinate booking of ferry, flights, or other appropriate transportation and accommodation.
